MN Certified Interior Designer has an affordable holiday tradition that sparks joy

Traditions… Do you ever wonder how they got started?  How long has it been passed down?  Who started it?  Well, our New Year’s Eve tradition was started last year and now my kiddos want it every year 😊.

I love New Year’s Eve.  I know it’s crazy.  I love getting dressed up, going out, having fun, meeting new people, and the experience.  Since having children, the wild and crazy days of going out have dwindled.  I was telling my husband all the things I loved to do for New Year’s Eve and wanted to have a family event, so Ezekiel (7) & Azariah (6) could enjoy this holiday too.  Michel suggested we spend a night at a hotel, order room service, and go to Camp Nickelodeon at Mall of America (MOA).  Yes, yes, and yes…. I loved it.

So, we reserved a one-bedroom suite at the Radisson Blu Mall of America.  Since we booked it a couple of days before New Year’s Eve, they had limited availability and we paid more for it.  The kiddos had to sleep on a sofa-bed.  I was concerned that they would not like it because they were not sleeping in a bed.  Remember my children are autistic and a change can trigger a major meltdown (screaming, yelling, crying, to an extreme that it sounds like we are seriously hurting them).  I was prepared for the worst and received the best

They both thought it was the coolest thing that the sofa turns into a bed.  They loved it.  My heart was filled with joy.  At first, we were going to go to a restaurant.  They like going to different restaurants even though they order the same food.  I just wanted to veg out and order room service.  So, I presented that idea to them.  They couldn’t believe it.  That someone brings food to your room, so you can eat it while watching your movie!  They were sold.  So, they had pizza & buttered noodles, Michel had a burger, and I had soup (I was still stuffed from lunch).  We watched Bluey and Encanto again.  They fell asleep around 10pm.  Michel & I stayed up to see the ball dropped and then went to bed.

The next morning was the coldest day.  My parents were going to meet us for breakfast but due to the weather they stayed home.  I don’t blame them.  We had breakfast at FireLake Grill House & Cocktail Bar. The kiddos shared the pancakes, and they added whipped cream and sprinkles to make it like their favorite restaurant.  Michel had french toast (his favorite) and I had just coffee, it was too early for me to eat.  We were done at 7:30am and the walkway to MOA doesn’t open until 10am.  We decided to quickly run across to MOA because it’s open for walkers just not for shopping yet.

When we got inside the Mall of America, it was magical.  It was so peaceful and quiet.  So, we walked around the mall to burn off our calories.  Ezekiel & Azariah wanted to take pictures with everything.

new year's day, mall of america, camp nickelodeon, family fun, new year's eve celebration, hotel stay, room service, walking around MOA

We then noticed a line forming for the Lego Store.  So, the kiddos & I stood in line while Michel enquired.  He found out that Lego releases their new items every January 1st.  Lego enthusiasts line up to get these special items because when they are gone, they are gone.  We stayed in line and waited.  I thought my children would be complaining about waiting.  But they were not.  They were overjoyed by the experience and the anticipation to see the latest Legos.  We didn’t buy any of the new ones but set a budget and they found something.  We then rode on some rides at Camp Nickelodeon before we had to check out at 12noon.

How does all of this relate back to my business?  Easy: Trusting the process and enjoying the experience.  Yes, it’s going to be chaotic.  You will be experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions throughout the process.  Excited in the beginning, waiting and thinking it’s never going to end when the construction starts, being overjoyed when the cabinets get installed, and then back down to “Are you done yet!” …. Yes, this experience for us was a rollercoaster event.  I didn’t know how my children were going to react, but I was prepared due to the tools & knowledge in my toolbelt from my Behavioral Therapists who have worked with them for 3 years.  It was an “AHA” moment.  They had my back the whole time and now I can enjoy these amazing activities like other families.  That’s what CW Design is doing for you.  We are collaborating with you and empowering you on your design journey so by the end “we become part of your life and transformation.”
