MN Interior Designer and Jury Duty what do they have in common?

Jury Duty is hard.  It’s an honor to do it but it’s a huge ask to put your life on hold for the trial period.  Well, it happened to me just last week.  I didn’t realize it would be a healing process for me.  I know you are probably thinking healing and jury duty don’t mix.  It did for me due to my past.

Okay, let me back up here.  My first marriage was not the greatest.  I was married to an abuser.  During the marriage, he committed a horrendous crime.  The cops came during the night dressed all in black, in protective gear, guns with lights, and the big metal door ram, if they had to bust open my apartment door.  No, this isn’t a scene from “Law and Order SVU”, this happened.  They came bursting in and told us to “get down on the ground with hands behind your back. “  Yes, I was handcuffed with my ex stating nothing.  Not even telling the cops to leave me and his 2-year-old child alone.  So, after the cops secured the place and realized it was just us, they unhandcuffed me and I went to my son.  A police officer was kneeling at his level talking with my son and blocking his view from seeing his biological father leaving the apartment with officers.  My life changed instantly.   I helped put my ex in prison because I was a key witness for the prosecutor due to my divorce.

I know how scary it is to have a designer come into your home.  You don’t want to be judged on where you are or how your house currently looks.

Yes, this past of mine came roaring back when I had to show up for Jury Duty.  It was 20 years ago and it felt like sitting at the stand yesterday.  This time I was sitting in the jury box and each of us was being asked questions by the judge.  Two hours went by and it was my turn.  The judge decided to take a short recess and then continue after the break.  I quickly went outside away from my fellow jurors to cry and talk with my husband.  His pep talk was very good because I was selected to be a juror.  I needed this healing process and didn’t even realize it until afterward.

A huge boulder has been lifted from my shoulders and it feels amazing.  I am taking a big chance to tell you a little bit about my past because I have lost friendships from it.

I know how scary it is to have a designer come into your home.  You don’t want to be judged on where you are or how your house currently looks.  You stepped out of your fear and invited me into your home or “inner sanctum”.  I am always truly honored and grateful to be invited into your homes.  Whether I get the project or not, you have conquered your fear: starting your design journey and realizing you want a professional to collaborate with you on it.

Thank you for letting me share a little bit about myself with you.  We all have pasts that are scary and dark because they are hidden in the shadows.  I want to shine the light on it and to show you it’s not scary.  Let’s take this design journey together.
